The Williamson Boys Varsity Soccer team advanced in the State Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Maple Grove in the quarterfinals.
Junior Tom Ferland scored twice in the second half off for Williamson (19-0-2), which advances to the state semifinals next weekend at Middletown High School.
Junior Josh McIntosh added a goal and an assist for Williamson, which advances to the state semifinals for the first time in program history.
Sophomore Corey Cristales chipped in an assist for the Marauders.
Junior Mitchell Steurrys recorded three saves for his 10th shutout.
“In the first half, we had a lot of opportunities and we didn’t capitalize on them,” Williamson coach Jim Newby said. “In the second half, Ferland took advantage of those opportunities. The defense played very tough with Mitchell Steurrys in the back and the attack took advantage of some opportunities. We had good possession in the second half”
Maple Grove finished 18-2-1.
