Girls Varsity Softball

Marion 24, Naples 11
Rebecca Sippel pitched a complete game striking out 6 to help Marion defeat Naples yesterday 24 – 11. Rebecca Couperus and Anna Mitchell each went 3 for 4 and scored 4 runs to lead the offense. Couperus added 6 rbi’s. Sami Bailey went 3 for 4 scoring 3 runs and 1 rbi. Loran Fleishmen went 3 for 4 and scored 4 runs and Taylor Hains hit a home run for Naples.

Class C2
No. 13 Pavilion 7, No. 4 Lyons 4
Nicole Forti hit a two-run double in the second inning to give Pavilion (2-13) a 5-0 lead. Forti also had a single. Marianne Barrett added a two-run double in the fourth inning that gave the Golden Gophers a 7-0 lead. Rashee Bostic went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Lions (14-7). Lyons scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and left the bases loaded.

Class C
No. 9 Avon 6, No. 8 Sodus 2
Cassandra Wolfanger went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Jill McEvoy was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Avon (9-10). Liz Deprez pitched a complete game in the win. Brooke Ludden was 2-for-4 for the Spartans (9-12). Avon advances to face top-seeded Gananda in the quarterfinals.

Class BB first round
No. 2 Wayne 4, No. 7 Honeoye Falls-Lima 1
Mark Gentile defeated Cameron Scott 6-3, 6-3 at second singles for the Eagles (8-3). HF-L finished 1-9.

No. 5 Aquinas 3, No. 4 Newark 2
Mike Weber and Mickey Burke defeated B.J. Blair and Ryan Kreuser 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3 at first doubles for the Little Irish (6-9). Newark finished 5-7.

Class DD first round
No. 5 Marion 3, No. 4 Clyde-Savannah 2
Kyle Zeller defeated Jacob Giocondo 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 at second singles for the Black Knights (7-5-1). The Golden Eagles finished 7-5-1.

Class B first round
No. 2 Pal-Mac 5, No. 7 Attica 0
Matt Wightman won at first singles, 6-3, 6-1, over Mike Dylag for Pal-Mac.

Class CC first round
No. 1 Williamson 5, No. 8 Byron-Bergen 0
Jon Beiswanger defeated Jeff Maskell 6-1, 6-0 at first singles for the Marauders (14-0). Byron-Bergen is 5-9.
