Pal-Mac falls to Charlotte in Class B1 basketball championship

The Pal-Mac boys varsity basketball team kept it close against top-seeded Charlotte, but couldn’t pull out a win. Charlotte claimed their second straight Section V Class B1 championship with a 67-62 win over third-seeded Pal-Mac Saturday at the Blue Cross Arena.

Cody Argus scored Pal-Mac’s first nine points and 12 of their first 14 as Pal-Mac built an early 16-9 lead. Argus scored five points in the final 30 seconds of the half, including a 3-pointer from the right wing that beat the buzzer. Pal-Mac led 37-35 at halftime. The Lakesiders limited Argus to six points in the third quarter and none in the fourth.

Derek Wager added 17 points and had 12 rebounds for Pal-Mac.

With the win Charlotte advances to the Class B qualifier at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Caledonia-Mumford, where it will face B2 champion, Wayland-Cohocton.
