Savannah Potato Festival is this weekend

On Friday, September 16th, the gates open at 12:00 Noon. The afternoon will be free admittance in honor of Senior Citizens until 5 PM when general admission starts – $5.00 per car load. Beginning at 5 PM Playland Amusement rides start. 6 PM opens with Savannah’s Idol Contest with cash prizes of $300 for first place, $200 for Second Place and $100 for third place. Discover the amazing talent in this area. The Fall Floral and Photography contests will also be judged that evening.
Saturday, September 17th starts out with a huge parade at 10:00 AM and by 11 AM the wheel is turning at the Cake Booth, children are lining up for the Kiddie Parade and the cooks are bringing in their potato creations for the Potato Fest Food Contest. In the entertainment tent, you can listen to the sounds of “Double Chase”, a mother-son duo fresh from their appearance at the New York State Fair. You will enjoy their classic and current country sounds from Noon to 4 PM. The Potato Gun Shoot-out begins at 2 PM. The Whacky Challenge, a team event for all ages, gets underway at 3 PM. 4 PM is the action time for the Mash Potato Wrestling. “Black Ice” will entertain you with their upbeat Southern Rock sound from 6-8:30 PM and then finish off after the fireworks from 9-10 PM.
Playland Amusements will be providing the rides with the Pay-One-Price rides for $15.00 from 1-4 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Clown Town and Mr. B’s Magic Show along with Potato Art Contests and the Children’s Center are there for kids of all ages. There will be more exhibits and vendors to see and plenty of food to eat.
The evening begins the Potato Peeling Contest at 6 PM. The night concludes with giant fireworks which begin at 8:30 PM. New this year for Saturday and Sunday will be the Beer Tent. On Saturday there will be wine tasting as well.
On Sunday, September 18th the day begins with an All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast from 7:30 to 11 AM and a church service at 8 AM. The Fireman’s Water Ball Contest begins at 10 AM, the Potato Soup Cook-Off at 11:30 PM and Golden Potato Hunt which begins at 12:30 PM. A Classic Car and Motorcycle Show will be held from 11 AM – 3 PM – come see these beautiful machines. The Sunday special treat of Tom Gilbo and the All Elvis Review will be 12 to 4 PM. So come to the Potato Fest so you can have a fun-filled weekend.
