Local Father and Son die four days apart

Following a long illness, former Wolcott Supervisor and Chairman of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors for many years, Marvin Decker, died Saturday November 26, 2011. Marv was married to Lois Seaman, and had four children, sons Kim, Todd and Murray, and daughter Kelly. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He delivered mail in Wolcott, before becoming a judge in that town and then supervisor in 1978. He became chairman of the board in 1981 and remained in that position until 2005. Marv was a farmer in Wolcott his entire life.

Sadly, his son, Todd Decker had died unexpectedly on Tuesday November 22, 2011 at age 57, of various complications. Todd is survived by his sons Erik (Lisa) Decker, Sgt U.S. Army Kurt (Elizabeth) Decker and Zachary (Kimberly) Decker.

Todd retired from the New York State Police after 23 years of service with the rank of Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Gulf War, having served with the U.S. Army at the rank of Captain. Todd previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Todd’s funeral service will be held at the Wolcott Fire Department on Saturday (12/3) at 12 noon. Bring a dish to pass.

Marv’s calling hours will be held at the Norton Funeral Home, 5925 New Hartford Street in the Village of Wolcott on Friday (12/2) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. His funeral service will be held at the Faith United Methodist Church, 12223 Oswego Street in Wolcott on Sunday (12/4) at 2 p.m.
