The reorganization meeting of the Williamson Central School District Board of Education was held on July 9, 2014 and called to order by Donna Cairns. The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance and a moment of silence. The oath of office was given to re-elected board members Angela DeFisher and Robert Wendler. The floor was opened for nominations for President of the Board of Education. Mr. Michael Collins was elected as President and the meeting proceeded under his direction. Nominations were called for the position of Vice-President. Mrs. Angela DeFisher was elected as Vice-President. The oath of office was given to the President, Vice-President and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gregory Macaluso. Committee assignments were reviewed and the following appointments were approved:

The Board agreed to join the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) and the Rural Schools Association for the 2014-2015 school year.
The meeting dates for the Board of Education for the 2014-2015 school year were set as follows: August 13, 27 September 17, October 8, 29 November 19, December 10 January 28, February 25 March 18, April 8, 22 May 6 (Budget Hearing), June 17
The board established the rates for mileage reimbursement, substitutes, and tutors prior to the close of the reorganization meeting. The regular meeting of the Board of Education began upon the close of the reorganization meeting.
Under reports from District Administrators, Wendy Havens highlighted her assistant Laurie Bischoff for her hard work and support. She also highlighted Teaching Assistant Elaine DeVries based on a recent observation at the high school. She commented that Mrs. DeVries is an assistant that works continuously
with the students until they are confident in their math skills. She took a moment to thank the board, the administrators, teachers and staff for the opportunity to serve the children in the Williamson Central School District. She commented that it has been an amazing experience. Ellen Saxby remarked on behalf of the administrators, faculty and staff that Mrs. Havens will be missed tremendously. She reported that summer school is under way at the Elementary School and that Nancy Weber has done a wonderful job with the varied summer school schedules to ensure that the students are in the right place at the right time.
Kathryn Avery reported that the high school summer school is up and running. She expressed her appreciation to Mrs. Havens and Dr. Macaluso for their support during her first week in the District. Dr. Macaluso again welcomed Dr. Avery and commented that she is off to a strong start. He reported that the graduation ceremony was very well-organized and a highlight of his first year. He also attended Project Graduation and reported that it was well attended by both students and parent chaperones. He updated the board on the flooring project at the high school. He took a moment to acknowledge Mrs. Havens’ 13 years of service to the district and her tireless work that will have an immeasurable impact on the district for many years to come.
During the regular meeting, the board approved a number of Committee on Special Education case summaries and reviewed the Treasurer’s Report. Under the consent agenda, the board approved several summer substitute teachers, teaching assistants, classified substitutes and a summer student aide. The board also approved the following appointments:
• Connor Church, Teacher, Special Education Elementary Summer 6:1:1 Kindergarten – Grade 2
• Extracurricular appointments of Rich Rozzi, Enrichment Coordinator and Kiera Carlson,
Rehearsal Accompanist, Middle School
• Katelyn Catlin, Teaching Assistant, as a long-term substitute for Amanda Ryan for the 2014-2015 school year
• Erica Reid as a volunteer
Under a separate action, the board accepted the retirement/resignation of Suzanne Mogray, Kindergarten Teacher, 25 years of service.
Under New Business the board discussed attendance at the NYSSBA Annual Convention to be held in New York City in October. The board agreed that it is cost prohibitive to attend given the location. Action items included the approval of a stipend for Donna Cairns, District Clerk for attendance at board meetings and the annual budget vote and approval of the Resolution to Amend the Williamson Central School District 403(b) Retirement Plan.
