A regular meeting was held by the Board of Education of the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District at the Middle School Large Group Instruction Room on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, 7:00 PM.
The Board accepted donations to the Middle School for $307.00 as part of the Box Tops for Education program and $26.30 from Imagine It as part of the Fundraising through Recycling program.
The Varsity cheerleaders were approved to participate in a NYSPHSAA Western Championship at Onondaga Community College on February 9, 2014. Also approved were the Shared Decision Making Plan and budget calendar for the 2014-2015 school year.
The Board approved to set a Public Hearing for February 4th to discuss adopting a resolution which would allow a partial exemption from school property taxes for veterans in accordance with New York State Real Property Tax Law section 458.
The Board approved the appointment of Ms. Lindsay Lazenby as the new Middle School Assistant Principal and welcomed her to the District. Her effective start date is February 7th.
Mr. Wahl, Ms. Wagner and Mr. Lustica gave a presentation on the current status of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and the next steps. Pal-Mac is currently in the consideration phase. They reported that MYP will be offered to all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. It will provide a framework of learning which encourages students to become critical, reflective thinkers as well as active, independent learners. After submitting the application for candidacy, faculty will continue with MYP workshops, continue meetings with MYP team and subcommittees, and continue communicating with the community.
Dr. Ike and Mr. Brongo gave the first budget presentation for the 2014-2015 school year. They reviewed the budget history relating to state aid reductions, foundation aid, New York State spending history and tax levy. They will provide the first draft of the budget at the February 4th Board of Education meeting.
Mr. Brongo provided information on next steps and timeline for the Facility Improvement Project.
