The October 3, 2012 Board of Education meeting was opened by President Michael Collins. Student representative Nicholas Vitalone reported that the Old English W ceremony was held with 29 students receiving awards. Andy Wahl highlighted the people that work in the test center, Gloria Miller, Elaine DeVries and Adair Eodice for their work organizing student schedules and test modifications for the high school students’ pre-tests. Doug Lauf congratulated the Old English W winners and highlighted Gabrielle Sears, Jessica Craft and student council for the effort they put into organizing Homecoming. John Fulmer reported that pre-assessments and MAPs testing have been underway at the middle school. He expressed his appreciation to the staff involved that coordinates the student schedules for testing and he highlighted the 1:1 aides for their dedication to their students – Colleen Boyce, Brenda Dixon, Lou Eck, Brenda Raymer, Karoline Mahon, LeeAnn Martin, Connie Myers and Joanne Scheib. Ellen Saxby reported that all students in the elementary school will take MAPS testing which is new for some students.
She highlighted Amy Busby for coordinating the testing. Amy Busby highlighted the elementary school DASA coordinators for the phenomenal job they did with the DASA assembly. They did a great job keeping the students engaged and the materials they used were grade level appropriate for all of the students in grades K-4. Gary Barno reported an internal audit is scheduled for tomorrow and that the audit report should be available for review very soon. Wendy Havens praised the administrators for managing the new testing requirements, reporting data for state reports and managing to keep the focus on the students. Maria Ehresman reported that she was in Albany recently and heard Senator Flanagan report on the education commission meetings that have been taking place across the state. She also reported that training continues with the DASA coordinators – Rhonda Tuchrelo, Michelle Seniuk, Amy Hanna, Cathie Abdunnasir, Leigh Prescott, Ingrid Wander and Amy Busby. The group is focused and wonderful to work with.
Ellen Saxby, Kathleen Salitan, Paula Dobesh and Shannon Wrights presented the Elementary School Spotlight which was on the Speech and Language Department. Each spoke about the work they do with students in each building in the district and how it has changed over the years Mrs. Dobesh demonstrated how the iPads are used in their work in all grade levels. Some assistive technology was utilized with students during MAPs testing.
The Board approved several CSE case summaries, and with the approval of the consent agenda, approved the appointments of several substitutes, a volunteer, some additional extra-curricular appointments and the following fall sports supervisors:

Under New Business the board approved the first reading of Policy 5640 – School Food Service Program (Lunch and Breakfast) and approved the following:
• BOCES Cooperative Bidding Resolution
• Resolution for Lead Evaluator for Teachers
• Leave of absence for Phyllis Stookey for November 21, 2012
• Leave of absence for Courtney Swain for one month to begin on October 19, 2012
• Management contract with Watchdog Building Partners, LLC
• Resolution relating to Installment Lease/Purchase Financing as it related to the Energy Performance Contract
• Awarded an external diploma through the NYS External Diploma Program
• A merged Williamson Marion Modified/JV/Varsity wrestling team
• A new physics textbook, Physics – Principles & Problems
