A regular meeting was held by the Board of Education of the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District at the Middle School Large Group Instruction Room on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 7:00 PM.
A vacancy for the position of Area 2 Director for a two-year term became available. After receiving a letter from a candidate interested in the position, the Board voted to nominate Rodney George of Avon to fill the position of NYSSBA Area 2 Director.
Dr. Smith and Dr. Pacatte reported on the 1st marking period failures by course. By focusing on the data, they could determine which students needed support.
Mr. Vaillancourt and Mr. Hoven gave a presentation on the flipped classroom model they are currently utilizing. The flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside the class and moving homework into the classroom. Students watch lectures at home at their own pace, communicating with peers and teachers via online discussions. Then concept engagement takes place in the classroom with the help of the instructor. This method maximizes time spent in class with students and increases focus on student engagement and enrichment.
At the Board’s request, Dr. Ike gave a presentation on paperless Board meetings. The Board will consider the possibility of using a digital platform known as BoardDocs at a future meeting.
The Board accepted an anonymous donation of $1,500.00 for the Primary School backpack program.
Dr. Ryan Pacatte was appointed the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Student Learning. His new appointment is effective July 1, 2013. The District is currently conducting a search for a High School Principal.
The Board adopted several policies that were amended and were presented with a new policy, Disclosure of Teacher Ratings, for a first reading. During a short recess refreshments were served compliments of the Middle School PTSO.
