Feb. 5 - Chess Night in Macedon: On Tuesday, February 5th , at 7:00 PM, there will be an evening of chess and other games. This event is free and open to the public - all levels of chess players. If you would like to learn how to play chess, someone will be ready to teach you the basics. Come and enjoy an evening of fun and competition. On Sunday, February 10th, at 4:00 PM, we will have our monthly book discussion club. This event is free and open to the public. Feb. 6 - Ontario September Club to meet: The next meeting of the Ontario September Club will be on February 6, 2008 at Casey Park. Edna and Don Whitbeck and Dee Costenoble will host a dish-to-pass luncheon. Irma Ocke volunteered to be in charge of the euchre tournament. The second play will be at this meeting.

Feb. 7 - Author to Speak at Williamson Library: Local author, Brooks Tenney, will present his newest novel, New Silk Road (2007, Trafford), at the Williamson Free Public Library on Thursday, February 7 at 7 PM. Tenney, a former engineer who himself has pushed the envelope in adventures across the globe, has drawn on his experiences in out-of-the-way places to craft another complex story of crime and intrigue. The author, who has toured the region extensively, will give his perspective on Central Asia and will talk about how he wrote the book. He'll entertain questions from the audience about the publishing process in general as well as about New Silk Road, in particular. The program is free and open to the public in the library's Community Room.

Feb. 9 - Card Party at West Wayne Fire Hall: The West Walworth Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary will hold another Card Party on Saturday, February 9, starting at 7:00 p.m. Cost is $5.00 per player. Join them at 6 pm for a pot luck dinner (optional). Bring a dish to pass and spend time before the games.

Feb. 9 - Annual Youth Power Dinner: The four-county (Wayne, Seneca, Yates , Ontario ) Finger Lakes Council-Boy Scouts of America will be hosting their 33rd annual Youth Power Dinner, which is their largest fund-raising event of the year. The money raised at this event is used in the four-county area for various Scouting programs. This year, Janelle and Al Plumb of Macedon are chairing the event. Feb. 9 - Chicken & Biscuits in Walworth: The Walworth United Methodist Church will hold a Chicken & Biscuit Dinner with homemade pies, on Saturday, February 9th, 4-7 pm at the Walworth United Methodist Church, 3679 Main Street, Walworth. Cost is $8 adults, $5 (ages 6-12), ages 5 and under eat free. Takeouts are available.

Feb. 9 - The Gala Snowflake Ball: The 3nd Annual Gala Snowflake Ball, a formal, black tie optional, evening, will be held at WayPoint Fine Food and Spirit located at Oak Park Resort Marina, 6483 Lake Bluff Road, on beautiful Sodus Bay.The Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven, a registered not for profit no-kill shelter for neglected, abused, and abandoned farm animals located at Alasa Farms in Alton, NY. (www.crackerboxpalace.org) will be the beneficiary of the fundraiser. The evening will begin at 5:00 p.m. with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a wine tasting reception. A gourmet dinner will be served and the evening will feature silent and live auctions, music, and dancing. Auction donations are welcomed. Reservations must be made by January 28, 2008, and be paid in advance; the cost is a $100.00 tax-deductible donation per person; purchase 10 tickets and get 1 free. Feb. 9 - Program on Sears Houses presented in Newark : A special program on Sears Houses will be presented by Carolyn Adriaansen on Saturday, February 9th, at 2:00 p.m., at the Newark-Arcadia Museum , 120 High St. , Newark . Carolyn is the Marion Town Historian. This program is part of the 2008 Winter Lecture Series, sponsored by the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society. Admission is free (donations accepted). Feb. 9 - Valentine's Book Swap in Walworth: The Friends of the Walworth-Seely Public Library love books, and they love their young readers. What better way to celebrate than with a Valentine's Used Book Swap and cookie decorating party. Children of all ages are welcome. You may take one book for each pre-owned book you bring in to “swap”. Cookies and juice will be provided by the Friends group. Please come to the Walworth Town Hall downstairs in the Recreation area on Saturday, February 9th from 10 am til 2 pm for the party. This is an Open House event, so you may come in anytime beween 10 and 2.

Feb. 9 - Assemblyman Oaks' Town Meetings in Wayne County: Assemblyman and Deputy Minority Leader Robert Oaks (R,C-Macedon) has scheduled a second round of town meetings to be held throughout the 128th Assembly District. This round will take place in Wayne County on Saturday, February 9. According to Oaks, the topics of discussion include the state budget proposal, upstate economy, alternative energy, legislative priorities, water resources and his recent constituent survey, in addition to concerns of local residents The meetings are scheduled for the following times and locations: 9:00 a.m. at the Macedon Town Hall, 32 Main Street; 10:30 a.m. at the Ontario Town Hall, 1850 Ridge Road; 12:00 p.m. at the Sodus Town Hall, 14-16 Mill Street; 2:00 p.m. Town of Arcadia, Newark Municipal Bldg., 100 East Miller Street; 3:30 p.m. at the Town of Galen, Clyde Municipal Bldg., 6 South Park Street. Feb. 10 - Lenten Service in Rose: A community Lenten Service sponsored by the Rose Council of Churches will be held at 4:00 p.m. It will take place at Rose Free Methodist Church , 10681 Wolcott Street . Members of the youth group will participate. For more information, call 587-2417.

Feb. 11 - Presentation on Underground Railroad in Wolcott: The Wolcott Historical Society is hosting an Underground Railroad Presentation at the Wolcott Civic Free Library on Monday, February 11th at 7:00 p.m. Presenter is Peter Evans, Wayne County Historian. Be the first to hear a report on the initial discoveries being made by the Preserve NY Team for the Underground Railroad in Wayne County . Refreshments will be served. There is no cost for this program. The Wolcott Historical Society's mission is to disseminate and encourage a greater knowledge of the history of the State of New York and particularly Wolcott, and greater area and its environs. Feb. 11 - Book Review at Palmyra Library: Tracy Curry, editor of the Courier-Journal, will review “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini at the Monday, February 11 Library Luncheon at the Palmyra Library. This second book by the author of “The Kite Runner”, depicts the turmoil of Afghanistan , the country of his birth. It is the story of two girls who become unlikely friends as women when their country in enveloped in war.
