Yeah, it is warrant time

Every year we bite the bullet and print oodles of people wanted on warrants by local police agencies. Lucky me, it is this and next week. There are simply too many to print in a single week.

No police agency has them in a nice form that is easy to copy and paste. That would be too easy. The names, ages, addresses and reason for the warrants all come over in various forms and have to be individually hand typed. All too often I have to decipher the penal code number and attach the crime with the name.

In the past, when we have done this, the local police agencies have had a good bit of luck receiving calls from people who either did not know they were wanted on a warrant, or had someone more than willing to turn them in.

Many people on the list have simply disappeared into the woodwork, making it extremely difficult for police to locate them, unless they get picked up on a traffic stop, or finally run out of luck.

We do this as a favor to the local police for all their cooperation throughout the year. One downside to printing warrants is the number of calls we get after they appear. Some want us to mind our own business (?). Others threaten to sue us for the list publication. Some actually may have settled the warrant and the police agencies simply have missed the paperwork entry. In any case, it is a good exercise in clearing many warrants off the books.

If your name appears in the warrant list, do not call the Times. We only print what the police agencies supply to us. Contact the police agency listed.

I was glad to see the decision, or lack thereof by the jury, in the John Edwards campaign finance case, explode in the face of the government prosecutors. This was a real iffy case from the beginning and should have never made it to the court.

Don’t get me wrong, the former Democratic Presidential candidate is far from an angel. He betrayed his wife, children and campaign followers by secretly taking up with and impregnating a campaign follower.

The real question here should be just how much did the government spend on bringing this case to trial? Who, or what was behind the elongated procedure?

Edwards was accused of violating campaign laws and trying to hide the girlfriend and baby from the nosey news people and public, by using campaign funds. My guess is that the government spent a hell of a lot more on the trial than was used in reported campaign fund cover-up.
I know no one is perfect, but wouldn’t it be nice if we could actually vote for someone not horny enough to possibly wash their careers and our trust down the drain? Imagine if we had elected this Edwards guy? Just what kind of President would he have become? Then, again, we really had no problem with then President Bill Clinton and his White House tryst with intern Monica Lewinsky. The public and press overlooked the indiscretions of President John Kennedy, for years.

As for campaign financing…Now that is really a whore’s factory, all done with the support of those benefitting the most.
