‘Tis the Season

Twas the night after Christmas, a Wednesday I think,
As I sat and reflected on the food and the drink.
On the presents we gave and the ones we were given,
On the family we saw, and the miles that were driven.

Though traveling’s a hassle, it’s a small price to pay,
To see all our family who lives far away.
Besides reconnecting, I eat like a King,
From Ham to Potatoes to some cheesy thing.

On top of the food, the gifts were fantastic,
From trains made of wood to trucks made of plastic.
My son was spoiled rotten, with too many toys,
That all need assembly and make lots of noise.

My wife got some gift cards to her favorite shop,
Along with some candy and a pink wooly top.
I got a chair, some cash and some socks,
But the best part of Christmas doesn’t come in a box.

The best part of Christmas is when people are kind -
When they hold open doors and they keep open minds -
When they care about others and smile a bit more -
And remember that Christmas is about more than stores -

Christmas is special as it brings people cheer -
It’s a warm kind of feeling that comes once a year -
We should try a bit more, to always do what’s right -
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
