Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

Novak Djokovic won his second Wimbledon in a five set thriller against Roger Federer last week. Where are all the Americans you ask? The top-ranked U.S male tennis player is #12 John Isner….other than that there is not one American in the top 50. Maybe that’s why tennis has become a forgotten sport in the U.S.
This is really not a thumbs up, but I’m a Red Sox fan…so I’m calling it a thumbs up….only because it gives my team a chance to catch the Yankees. ESPN reports that Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka has a partially torn UCL and will miss at least six weeks. If rehab does not work, he will likely need Tommy John surgery. That’s a tough blow to the Yankees, who currently sit only 3.5 games back in the American League East.
Even after the U.S. Men’s Soccer Team was eliminated from World Cup play early last week, it’s still been a great tournament to watch. Sunday’s World Cup final is set…Germany and Argentina will play for the title. It will be interesting to see what happens in Argentina upsets Germany in the final. Brazil and Argentina are not so friendly neighbors and their rivalry goes deep. Argentina will be playing for the World Cup against Germany on Brazil’s soil. If you think Brazil is in mourning now after getting knocked out by Germany 7-1 earlier this week, just wait to see what happens if Argentina wins the title.
Ok, I’m officially sick of free agency in the NBA. Just make a decision already. I’m done with the constant coverage and discussions around where LeBron and Melo will play next year. Spoiler alert: Carmelo will stay in New York and LeBron will rejoin the Cavs to try to change his image and be seen as the “good guy” again. Now we can all move on.
The funniest thing I’ve heard all week….
After Nigeria was eliminated from the World Cup, the Nigerian captain personally offered to refund all the expenses of fans who traveled to Brazil. He said he just needs their bank account details and pin numbers to complete the transaction.
