Things to be thankful for
- Updated: November 30, 2013
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. How I love my turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing! Did you know that the average adult consumes over 3,000 calories and 229 grams of fat during the Thanksgiving meal? There’s no better way to give thanks for what you have than with a day of overconsumption.
What goes well with a huge feast? A day of relaxing on the couch watching football all day long! It’s not often that I get to just sit down and relax with my crazy work schedule, a 19-month old daughter, and a new puppy.
We decided to go to my parent’s house for Thanksgiving this year. I am thankful to be so close to my family. Many families aren’t as lucky to get to see each other as much as we do. Yes, they are all crazy… and working in a newspaper family is not easy, but I love them and wouldn’t trade my life with anyone. I love that I can take a one-minute drive and visit my parents, my brother and my sister-in-law and Eric (the cutest and funniest nephew in the world) and my mother-in-law.
Family is not the only reason I’m thankful. There is plenty to be thankful for this year….
I’m thankful that I made the playoffs in both of my fantasy football leagues this year. I’ve made a ton of bad lineup decisions, yet I still own a record good enough for second place. Many teams in my league have been hit by the injury bug this season and my team has been pretty solid.
I’m thankful that the Red Sox won the World Series and that all my Yankee-lovin’ friends have to sit on that for a long winter season.
I’m thankful to the generous stranger who bought my breakfast at the drive thru window at Dunkin’ Donuts last week (yes, I paid it forward by buying a stranger’s breakfast the next day). I love kind holiday gestures.
I’m thankful that college basketball has started and am excited that I got tickets to attend the Syracuse-Villanova game with my dad this season.
I’m thankful to everyone who reads my column. It would really suck if I was writing this every week just so my wife had something to proofread. I have enjoyed the emails and conversations I’ve had with my readers. The winter high school sports season begins soon and we will be covering all the action. Make sure to check the new improved website for daily scores.
I’m thankful for my beautiful and amazing wife. I couldn’t imagine my life without her. She makes me better in every way.
Finally, I am thankful that we will be having another baby soon! I can’t wait to meet him (we found out this time), and begin a new chapter of a life that I already couldn’t be more thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
