The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Tessa J....
This is not a column about dogs. It is a take-off on the old Rawhide song, something most youngsters have no idea to what I am referring.
On April 30th, after much haggling and lawyer to and fro, the 26+ year run of the Holdraker clan residing on Nonesuch Court in the Town of Walworth will come to an end. We are closing on our new home located on Route 350 in the Town of Walworth.
The reason for the move is simple. We want to simplify our lives. We are moving from a four bedroom colonial to a one floor, two bedroom ranch house. No more steps for two old people with a list of medical issues to worry about.
In preparing for the move, we gave away tons of furniture, cleaned out crawl spaces, threw away boxes of accumulated crap and donated even more to various causes.
The new place has a built-in heated pool and large hot tub and well landscaped yard. Everything, including laundry facilities is on one floor. Even though the new place is almost totally remodeled, the bathroom is getting a make-over. The garage area will be insulated and a separate heating system installed.
Since we work out of our home, a new whole-house back-up generator will be installed allowing the ‘Times’ to continue regardless of storms and other type power outages.
The upcoming move resulted after millions of phone calls changing various services, address changes, documentation, land surveys, etc.
Since this is, for all intents and purposes, the final move for the rest of our lives, we decided to go all out. We gave away our practically new dining room set for one that better suits the new living space. A new washer and dryer with all the gizmos is being delivered along with some new bar chairs for the modern kitchen. Chairs, flat screen TVs, lamps, , dinnerware, kitchen gadgets of all shapes have been gifted. We decided to keep and buy only what fits our new lifestyle. This past week, in preparation of the move, we purchased new sheet sets, pillows and bright bed spreads. New towels will match the decor, something we never gave a second thought to in our previous all-white lives.
A full house security camera system is being installed along with recessed lighting. Zu Zu dog will learn the ins and outs of a full yard electric fence system. The cats will learn about an indoor cat door leading to the basement. New phone and cable lines are being installed for the business end of things. We purchased new desks and a host of other items that will make the business purr at our new digs.
Why, if we are trying to downsize and simplify are we spending like there is no tomorrow? We ain’t no spring chickens. We have worked our butts off for decades and we now want to enjoy life while making it a bit easier on our bodies. Also, I have come to the conclusion that I want to take it all with me, leave nothing for the boys. Crass, perhaps, but since we get few, if any vacations, life is too short to deprive us of a few luxuries.
The week of April 30th will be pure hell as we try and coordinate the move, the phones, etc. and keep the business going. We have worked every aspect of the move out in our heads so everything will run smoothly (?). Please bear with us as we keep the doggies moving during this upheaval in our lives.
