For those who did not get the message
Remember the good old days when a politicians did not talk out of both sides of their mouths? I have decided to take elections to a new level. We will NOT accept any letters from political candidate supporters who simply bash the other guy/girl.
I am tired of the he said/she said type of campaigns. I don’t care what President Obama reportedly said in a closed meeting, or what Romney said to a bunch of money men behind closed doors. I do not care what Louise Slaughter bemoans as credibility gaps in Maggie Brooks tenure as a county administrator, or Slaughter’s gaffs while serving in Washington. I do not care what political gobbledygook Dan Maffei and Ann Marie Buerkle dish out on each other.
We will accept letters from supporters who support their candidate on their merits, hopes, dreams, plans, etc. (Word limits are 250 words or less)
I have already dismissed several anti-opposition candidate letters and will continue to do so. I will also dismiss any support “form letters”, and letters not coming directly from the author’s address, out of county letters, or packets of letters sent out by party faithful.
Yeah, I know the other papers will accept just about any signed crap, but I decided it was time to take a higher road after seeing what a cesspool politicking has become.
By the way, that also goes for political ads. I don’t like the negative tone, we will not accept it, from any side. Ads must extol the virtues of the candidate, not the dirt thrown up by the media or campaign junkies.
This year, the candidates for various offices will be asked to submit a maximum 500 word essay on why we should vote for him/her. No attacks on the opposition will be allowed, only how they intend to serve the electorate. We will also ask several direct questions without malice towards any party, or my own political leanings.
If the congressional candidates wish not to respond, that too will be noted.
Don’t like our approach? Buy one of the other papers to see your name appear on a trash letter. Whatever turns you on.
Starting a trend? No, I doubt it. We, the people, have become so ingrained on what the media and political pundits feed us in politics that we actually vote for the negative crap, not the candidate.
There are some major changes coming for the Times in about two weeks. Readers, both paper and online, will be pleased by the moves and additions we will be making. I fully intend for this newspaper/digital postings to add much more content. We were one of the first to expand an online presence and will offer the most comprehensive Wayne County news coverage possible.

Wife Patti left me for three days to visit a friend in Virginia Beach. I told her I didn’t like the void and she was never to leave me without someone to clean the cat liter ever again! That, and I just missed her a lot.
