And that’s all it took…

Well, I called it last week….it was inevitable….a terrible call by the replacement refs at the end of last Monday night’s Packers/Seahawks game was all it took for the NFL officials to be reinstated. I said things were bound to get worse and asked what it would take for the NFL to settle the contact dispute. Well, it was a blown game that ultimately ended the lockout. However, a player injury almost occurred during the Cowboys/Bucs game when an official threw his hat onto the field which made Dallas’ Kevin Ogletree trip in the end zone (luckily, he wasn’t injured).

Monday night’s game was awful! Yes, it should have been pass interference on Seattle’s Golden Tate. Yes, that was a Green Bay interception. Yes two officials on the field made conflicting calls and yes the ultimate call was wrong. Shockingly the replay upheld it. Many (mostly Packers fans) are calling this season tainted due to the poor officiating in the first 3 weeks. Ultimately the owners call the shots, but should a team make the playoffs, or fail to make them as a result of the Monday night debacle, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should start looking for a new job.

It has become less about the fans and more about what’s in the best interest of the owners. When it comes to making decisions, the owners and the commissioner have become the judge and the jury. I wasn’t a bit surprised that the NFL defended what happened in Seattle on Monday night. The owners locked out the officials, the officials totally screwed up a game and the league announced that they got it right and the game is final. At least we don’t have to deal with this fiasco anymore. Now fans can go back to booing the regular refs.
